Features of Expository Essays
  1. Use topic sentences to start your paragraphs. This helps you to decide what details, examples, facts to use to support the topic sentence. It also makes it easy fro the reader to understand your explanations very well and identify the main ideas.
  2. Use adequate details – Examples of facts to support your topic sentences.
  3. The present tense is most often used to write expository essays. Write simple clear sentences in the present tense.
  4. Expository essays call for a detailed explanation of the subject matter; hence, there is need for thorough planning before writing. It requires an adequate knowledge of the subject matter.
  5. Descriptive words and phrases should be used to make your explanation clear enough.
  6. Add your transition words. E.g. first, second, meanwhile, after, awhile.
