Regular and Irregular Verbs

  • Verbs form their tenses through the principal parts and some of which vary if the verb is regular or irregular.
  • Regular Verbs
    • This, in modern grammar, has five principal parts, and it forms its past participle by adding ‘d’, ‘t’, or ‘ed’ to the present tense form
  • Irregular Verbs
    • This also has five parts and is of three subgroups. The first group consists of verbs that have the same form for the present, past tense, and past participle (Group 1)
    • The second group consists of those that have the same form for the past tense and past participle (Group 2)
    • The third group comprises of those that have different forms for the present, past tense, and past participle (Group 3)
