12 FUN Christmas activities to do as a family

A family spending time together at Christmas

“Tis the season to be jolly!”

The first term has finally come to a close and the Christmas season is already here! The anticipation of the 25th of December leaves us all with an underlying excitement that cannot even be described. At this point everyone, especially the kids, are looking forward to Christmas presents, Christmas songs, and of the joy and happiness that Christmas brings. To add to this, kids are also looking forward to having a very good time after working really hard to write their exams.

We’ve put together a list of 12 activities that you could engage in with your family this Christmas period. You can send this list to your family and you can pick the activities you’d be trying out during the holiday season. Let’s take a look!

  1. Give back:

The Christmas season is a time of giving back. There are a lot of families who’d be finding it difficult to celebrate Christmas. You can teach your kids the habit of giving, by asking them to give out some of their old clothes, shoes, or toys. This is an amazing way of spreading love and instilling good values in your kids

  2. Go see a movie:

There is at least one new Christmas movie that is released every year. You could decide to go see a movie with your family at the cinema, or better still, at the comfort of your home. An old time movie you could consider seeing with your family is home alone. It’s an all time favorite!

  3. Go to the mall:

The mall is a cool place to hang out with your family during Christmas. There are a lot of fun things to do at the mall. Depending on the kind of mall you go to, you can window shop, eat, play games, and interestingly you can enjoy the sight of many other families spending time together.

  4. Throw a mini party:

Yes! You could throw a mini party at home and invite a few friends and family to come over with their kids. Then your kids could help you with preparations for the mini party. They’d sure be willing to lend a helping hand.

  5. Attend a Christmas carol:

What’s Christmas without carols? During this period there’d be a lot of Christmas carols happening around. You can decide on which one to attend and then go together as a family.

  6. Secret santa:

This is a cool way to exchange gifts! Secret santa is a Christmas tradition in which members of a group randomly assign a person to whom they give gifts. So within your family you could write the names of everyone on a piece of paper and everyone gets to pick a paper and get a gift for the one who was picked.

  7. Bake Christmas treats:

Every child loves to bake and get messy, so baking is a good activity for Christmas. Ask your kids to join you as you bake Christmas treats. Give them the liberty to try out their own recipe and see what it tastes like. Don’t get worried about things getting messy, that’s where the fun is. Besides, your kids get to learn to bake too!

  8. Go to beach:

During christmas you could decide to hangout with your family at the beach. The kids could build a sand man or a sand castle or even play some board games. You all could dance to some music and snack on some barbecue too.

  9. Family photoshoot:

Talking about  memories, you could take your family for an outdoor photoshoot. Photoshoots are also a nice way to bond with the family too. You could also get new clothes for the kids so they can look astonishing in the pictures!

  10. Game night:

This another fun activity to do with your family during christmas! Your kids are going to love it. The idea is to play games that allow everyone to loosen up and have a fun time together. Make sure to put off all forms of distractions and get everyone immersed in the games. There are a lot of games to play. Some of them include charades, monopoly, clue, hide and seek, three truths and a lie, and so much more!

  11. Visit a relative:

The Christmas season is a period where you could also bond with relatives and friends. You could check up old time friends and relatives that you haven’t seen in a while. Your kids would also get to see their uncles, aunt’s, cousins, nephews, nieces and other relatives.

  12. Rest:

This is the activity that requires you and your family to do absolutely nothing. While you all are running around and having fun this season, it’s also very important that you take some time off with your kids to relax. Besides, the kids would be resuming back to school in a few weeks, so you don’t want to get them too exhausted.

With this list of activities, Christmas is going to a blast! You would be able to give your kids the best kind of holiday they could ever ask for and be sure that they’d have a lot of stories to tell their friends when they get back to school.

Which of these activities would you be trying out with your family? Tell me in the comments section!
